About the Session

Ethical Documentation: Applying Professional Ethics to Clinical Records, Confidentiality, and Risk Management
Clinical documentation is more than a record of what happened in session—it reflects clinical reasoning, ethical decision-making, continuity of care, and our responsibility to client welfare.
This 5-hour live, synchronous ethics CE workshop examines clinical documentation through the lens of professional ethics and applicable Georgia standards. Participants will explore ethical responsibilities related to assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, progress documentation, confidentiality, clinical records, technology and AI-assisted documentation, risk, subpoenas, and consultation.
Rather than spending five hours simply listening to a lecture, participants will apply ethical principles to realistic clinical documentation dilemmas through live polls, case discussions, knowledge checks, and breakout-room activities.
Topics Include
Client welfare and the ethical purpose of documentation
Assessment and diagnostic documentation
Treatment planning and progress documentation
Confidentiality and clinical records
Client access and release of records
Electronic records, technology, and AI-assisted documentation
Risk and high-stakes documentation
Subpoenas and legal requests for records
Clinical and ethical consultation
Ethical decision-making in documentation
